i.am is a service supporting young people to identify their hopes and reach
their future goals. i.am is a psychosocial support service that supports
children and young people up to 25 years of age with lived experiences of
suicide, suicidality, and self-harm. i.am is a safe space founded on lived
experience and peer support.

This position is Max Term contract role for 12
months. Working days are Monday
to Friday. (38 hours a week or 40 hours a week with an RDO).

About the Role
The Family/Carer Peer Worker is a specialist role designed to harness the
personal lived experience of supporting children, young people, or family
members through crises related to self-harm, suicidal ideation, or emotional
distress.
Key Responsibilities
Provide empathetic, practical support to families and carers, thereby enhancing their ability to create safe, nurturing environments for children and young people.
Work with families and carers of children and young people actively receiving support through the i.am program.
Empathetic Advocacy & Support: Leverage your own lived experience as a family member or carer to build authentic, trust-based relationships with families.
Customised Support Planning: Collaborate closely with families, other i.am team members and related service providers to devise, implement, and review individualised support plans.
Service Coordination & Network Building: Work as an essential liaison between the i.am program and external community services, including mental health providers, allied health professionals and partner organisations.
Essential experience and skills - you will have:
experience in delivering integrated mental health services and operational coordination in a youth/mental health setting
demonstrated ability to work across multiple sites and manage complex stakeholder relationships
relevant four year degree with one years relevant experience; or
three year degree with two years of relevant experience; or
associate diploma with relevant experience; or
lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience; or
experience attained through previous appointments, service and/or study, an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake a range of activities.
Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft
Office and client management systems.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for community-based work.
Compliance checks: NDIS Worker Screening, Working with Children Check, and
Police Background Check.
