We have an exciting
opportunity for an Accounting Officer to enhance their skills. This role involves hands-on
accounts payable, accounting and bookkeeping processes, all in line with
standard practices.
The role
As our Accounting
Officer, you will report to the Accounting Manager and be part of a
high-performing team of accounting professionals. You will collaborate closely
with the Finance team, other employees and senior managers and the executive
leadership team. You will also liaise with key external stakeholders - suppliers,
auditors, financial and insurance institutions, legal representatives, the
Australian Tax Office and funding bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Manage financial practices in accordance with New Horizons policies and procedures
Review and approve invoice coding
Ensure accurate and timely processing and recording of invoices
Process payments, petty cash, debit card, and staff reimbursements
Support month-end close process, including review and maintain prepayment, accrual, contra and other balance sheet accounts
Analyse costs and ensure records are accurate and up-to-date, including reviewing the coding of financial transactions
Support the preparation of management reports, budgeting, and forecasting from a cost perspective
Perform bank and debit/credit card account reconciliations
Raise general journals as needed
Maintain fixed assets listings and monthly depreciation charges
Review aging reports
Utilise and protect New Horizons resources and facilities in line with policies and procedures
Skills & Experience
Required
Excellent numeracy and data analysis skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
Proficiency in accounting software and spreadsheet programs
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in a similar role.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV is highly desirable.
Current Police Check (not older than 3 months), NDIS Check and NSW Working with Children Check.
